Flash Moves to Sesame Street
Sesame Street, the 35-year old program that’s now seen in over 120 countries, has added Flash animation to their curriculum. Within the last year, two studios, Dancing Diablo and Cartoon Pizza, have supplied Sesame Street with Flash shorts.
Dancing Diablo is a Brooklyn based animation studio,
and they recently delivered 11 shorts that were commissioned by Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street. The various shorts were created using a variety of mediums, and one ‘Cat and Mouse,’ was created in Flash. You can see this short at Dancing Diablo’s website. After entering the site, click on ‘The Work,’ and you’ll see the link to ‘Cat and Mouse’ and the right hand side of the menu.
‘Global Thingy’ was originally conceived to help Sesame
Street’s audience appreciate diversity. This series of Flash shorts also aims to educate young viewers in social reasoning, cooperation, sharing and empathy. The shorts are created by Cartoon Pizza, who are also New York-based. It’s a company headed up by Jim Jinkins and David Campbell, who are the creative minds behind PB&J Otter, Disney’s Doug and JoJo’s Circus, to name a few. They’ve been kind enough to host a few ‘Global Thingy’ clips on their site, and if you click on ‘Projects’ and then on ‘Global Thingy,’ you’ll see a ‘Video Clips’ button at the bottom of the page.
