Garth and Wal-Mart Flash Spoof
Garth Brooks has essentially retired from the music biz,
at least until his daughter turns 18, which is in 2015. But thanks to American Rights at Work, a non-profit that typically helps workers unionize, Garth is back at it. Well, sort of. His song ‘Friends in Low’ places has been parodied and added into a music video that pokes at Wal-Mart and their lack of union representation. It’s titled ‘Friends With Low Wages.’ If the Garth Brooks/Wal-Mart connection is readily apparent – the scoop is he signed an agreement a while back that gives Wal-Mart the exclusive right to distribute some of his material.
‘Friends With Low Wages’ is animated in what we you could call JibJab-mation – with cut-out animation puppets, a song parody and an iris out at the end. I’m sure many who see this might even assume that JibJab was behind it, especially since it comes on the heels of their ‘Big Box Mart’ short. ‘Low Wages’ isn’t quite on par with JibJab’s humor and animation quality, but they get points for looking out for the little guy.
