Minoriteam on Adult Swim
‘Minoriteam’ is the newest addition to the Adult Swim lineup, and it features a gang of superheroes whose powers are based on their stereotypes. The writers obviously set out to ‘push buttons’ but I think they’ve also made it funny as hell. Designed in an ink-heavy comic-style, and it’s sparsely animated. Which gets me to the point – I’ve read that ‘Minoriteam’ is Flash-animated. I also read on the Funny Garbage website that they co-developed the show, and they do quite a bit of Flash-animation. Can anyone confirm this? (update – in the comments section, we learned that ‘no’ it’s not – after effects)
There’s a great interview by Adam Finley with Adam de la Pena, a writer on ‘Minoriteam,’ over at TV Squad. The next episode airs April 7th at 12:15am.

The ejecutives are totally crazy !!
It’s horrible !!
I don’t understand why TV channels waste lots of money in this crap !! There’re some “Flash animations” better than this: Brackenwood, Arj and Poopy…

I dig the extremely limited style and the Jack Kirby ink and paint.
Additional clips can be found on the adultswim website.

I dig the style, it’s like those old Captain America and Hulk cartoons from the 60′s.
I don’t know about the humor though, I’ll have to watch a few episodes and see. This trailer didn’t do much for me, but some of the stuff they showed at Comic Con last year was pretty funny.

It’s not done in Flash. Its all done in After Effects. I work at cartoon network doing the Flash Games on the site and for Adult Swim and Im working on a game for this show now. All the files from the show are Photoshop files. Heavy file size so i doubt they would use flash. Mostly all adult swim shows are after effects like aqua teen. You can peep my fosters battle checkers game on CN games page. I did the animation for it.

Thanks for clearing that up, Andre.
I think a pilot must have been made in Flash, as I’ve found several mentions on the web about ‘Flash-animated’ Minori-team.

Just because you recieved photoshop files doesn’t neccessarily mean they aren’t using flash. The assets you recieved probably came from some dumbfuck marketing person (these types are famous for spreading around flattened photoshop files, low-rez jpgs of character turnarounds, and other useless shit, unable to tell the difference between promotional use and actual production use) rather than artists on the show. That being said, this Minoriteam show could have been made in PowerPoint and saved a lot of money.

The best use of limited animation in a while. I love the omage to the 60s marvel cartoons.

This is a great show. Stereotypes are true, I know it’s hard to believe after watching PCMTV for years… they just dont apply to all people. But there’s nothing so wrong with it, and if you can laugh, why not? The other option is sanitize all culture so everything is the same and no fun. Screw that.
I’d guess it’s just as easy to do it in AE as in Flash.. especially if you don’t know flash (admit it, flash is HUGE and hard to get into if you dont have time or money). Heck, you could buy a mac mini and edit it in imovie for free, but composting would have to be done in PS or something… not so free.
