Ma Lin’s Animated Coldplay Video

Lindu, a 27-year old animator based in Shanghai China, dropped out of college in 2001 and created his first Flash animation in August of 2001, according to his Newgrounds.com bio. His unofficial video for the Coldplay song ‘Yellow’ was a huge hit in China, and, more recently, has enjoyed fame over at Newgrounds. Admitedly so, the video has a Jamie Hewlett-style look (‘Tankgirl’ and ‘Gorillaz’), but its strong stuff nonetheless.

Ma Lin (his full name) went on to become a director at the Chinese Flash animation studio Itscartoon, which has been the focus of several posts here at CHF. Check out ‘Tatto – Broken Summer’ to see more from Itscartoon.

    Awesome !!!

Good production, a lot of work in it. I supose that the post-production was made using programs like Combustion or AE, because there are some interesting camera effects.

Cool stuff, I’m a sucker for Coldplay
Kenneth – it looks like all Flash to me. My litmus test: zooming in on the movie. It all looks crisp just like vectors always do, so I don’t think any post production bitmap manipuation worked on this one. Those camera effects can be done with Sham’s vCam, Jarrad’s reanimator.Camera, or the Flash Filmmaker camera. The shakey parts could be done by hand, frame by frame, or with some simple actionscript applied to the camera.
