Trussell Translates Chinese

Joel Trussell, who I recently had the pleasure of meeting, has released his latest Flash piece. It’s a music video for Portland, Oregon based singer-songwriter, M. Ward. The song is called ‘Chinese Translation,’ and it’s co-directed by Joel and Eric Johnson. Gene Blakefield and Darin Bendall helped out on the animation end, and Chris Chua added in additional art assistance.

You might recall a mention in the CHF message boards of Joel working while on the road. After we met up at the JibJab offices, he diligently went back to his hotel room and began work on the video below (which is also in the spotlight now at mtvU).

Joel’s a CHF veteran – having been written-up for his bad-ass viking video and his ‘Float‘ video. Next up for Joel? He’s hinted about work for Wild Brain and Camp Chaos. Can’t wait!

Very cool. Love the colour and mood, notably when the sun goes down and you get this wonderful purple wash. The tree looks great and I liked the song too (the lyrics were great but the instrumental break was inspired).

    Superb work all round.

Man I love this guys work, his style and animation even too.

It’s really captivating despite how limited it is. But does that really limit it?

    Hardly, awesome work.

I’ve been a Joel Trussell fan since I first saw “War Photographer” over a year ago on animationmeat.com. I still make it a point to check it out at least every couple of months… in fact its about that time again… :)

Its a real treat to be able to view more of his work after so short a time.

    Absolutely wicked!
