Frank Forte, whose work has been featured here before, and Gene McGuckin (Spumco, ‘Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends’) have created a Flash-animated cartoon trailer for their series ‘Rat and Roach.’ The two are currently pitching the series around town, and they’ve been kind enough to display their wares on YouTube for us.

there some neato design in there, and some good posing.
it’s weird though, and the colours are atrocious.
I’m not exactly sure what the hell is going on either, I guess yeah it’s a classic take on WB character versus.
Love the Rob Zombie track, shh, I won’t tell if you dont.
Love the gross out animation at the end, reminds me of Raiders of the lost ark, nazi meltdown!
gene.

McGucks and Forte, together AGAIN?!
haha
Hope you guys are both doing well…
I love the poses of roach pulling out his enormous blaster!…
Gene, how’s Fosters going?… Frank, how have you been?!
Been a looooong time since the ol’ ‘FunnyBone’ days… glad to see you guys are still teaming up!
Come to NYC sometime and see your buddies Dagan and Joe…. sheesh!
Can’t wait to see more from you guys!

Gene,
Yeah those BG colors are bad. This was done years ago and just polished off to pitch. If we go to series we want it to look like old WB and experiment with 50’s style design. Muted colors.
Dagan,
Good to hear from you. I’ve seen your blog, killer work. be back east for the Holidays, we have to get some real pizza!! get brews atTerra Blues.
Trying to keep up the blog.

the rob zombie track was already overused in 2000…it’s beyond awful in 2006.
ok so basically the plot is a roach and a..rat fighting in space? with a warners style and gratuitious violence?
I know all you guys are buds and enjoy kissing each others asses, but if you keep coming up with weak ideas then congratulating yourselves, well none of you are ever gonna get a show greenlighted.
and look, I want to see people succeed, but I know you can do better.

I totally agree with above statement, this stuff isn’t really good at all. Wasn’t the art from this featured in the 2D Hollywood book? If it’s been floating around for this long, the prospects don’t seem good.
Seems like some one with some talent sat down and animated the characters, but everything else looks like it was done by amateurs!

Yeah that was extremely slow

This “pilot” is more like a color animatic with some animation. As an animator I try things, some are successful, others are not. Maybe this Outer Space episode doesn’t work as well as I’d liked. Gene and I are in the process of revamping the series and the characters. We both agree it needs a good round of visual development and brainstorming. It’s good to get unbiased third party opinions though.

This is my first time posting on the Main page, but it seems as if the comments have gotten really harsh as of late. It’s not as if it isn’t hard enough to put your stuff out there, but then to be attacked by what seems to be a bunch of bitter animators. Shheesh.
That is the very reason why I haven’t posted any of my work on the show and tell page. Because I’m an Amateur.
Can’t you not like their stuff in a nice way?
(BTW, I must say that most of the people that I have come across that use their real names have been nothing but nice. This is only for the haters out there.)

being frank is fine, and i’m just happy we haven’t devolved to slurs and chest-pounding.
know that anyone who produces a homespun piece of work is that one step further than the arm chair pundits who throw stones.
make more shit, everyone! start drawing and start blowing us all away! (chest thump)

I agree with Aaron. Its really easy to criticize, but try to give some advice with the critique. If you don’t like something, don’t just say “it sucks”, but rather what you would do to make it better. Approach it with some class…

I would like to see it more in the vein of Big daddy Roth. more true to that. i agree with the comments on colour and was rather perturbed (yeah i said it) with the tears from that fellow Seantron. We are all professional people and you have to put it out there and suck up the comments.
Best of luck with it.

FFFFrrraaannnnkkkiiieeeeee!!!!!
Damn Dude! That’s some wild stuff. Those character poses are so Forte’d, there’s no mistaking the style. I’m looking forward to the day you guys have it on Spike or Adult Swim.
Always rooting for the Forte.
