Khatam and Gemmill Get Gecko Gig

posted by admin, 4.59 PM

Ryan Khatam, an animator and video game maker living in Los Angeles, recently took on a job animating several scenes for a new feature-length project for Nickelodeon. Shredderman Rules stars Devon Werkheiser, Tim Meadows and Daniel Roebuck, and its based on the Shredderman book series created by Wendelin Van Draanen. ‘Savage’ Steve Holland is directing the live-action film for Nickelodeon which is due out in 2007.

The project, according to Khatam, is about “a young boy who has a favorite cartoon (Gecko & Sticky) that he watches on TV. There are three parts where he watches small segments of this cartoon on television. The cartoon is about a super hero named Gecko & his side-kick named Sticky (who is a stick bug).”

Holland directed Better Off Dead and One Crazy Summer back in the 80’s and followed that up by directing Eek! the Cat, an animated series that began back in 1992. It wasn’t his first animated project, as both Better Off Dead and One Crazy Summer we filled with animated sequences.

Okay, back to Ryan, who, along with David Gemmill, recently posted one of the Flash-animated finished sequences from the upcoming film. For more info, check out Khatam’s blog post where he outlined the project back in September of 2006.

Also, take a drive over to Newgrounds and watch Ryan’s previous work, Bird Skipper, a short originally intended as an 8-minute piece. You’ll surely notice Khatam’s appreciation for Ren & Stimpy, which he expresses on his other blog.
