Dave and Dorian Enter The Ring
Dave E. Phillips and Dorian Soto are mortal enemies! Well, at least they are when the two of them square off in an animation duel. What a concept, eh? Dave and Dorian are two Flash animators whose work you may have seen at Dave’s website humbleego.com. For instance – their X-treme Holiday Super Friends series, which is a big hit over at Newgrounds.com.
So, back to the animation duel – Dorian and Chris chose their characters, Nubs and Mr. Pokey respectively, and then went at it. They worked with what’s called “a living SWF,” or an animation file that they passed back and forth, each adding a scene in succession, until the piece was done. The first edition of the duel is now online – Animator’s Duel: Round 1.
This concept is also at the heart of the Tire Fire Films series Versus, which pits Greg Franklin, one of the founders of Six Point Harness Studios, against Saharat Tantivaranyoo, an animator at 6PH. They’re currently up to their 4th episode, and I just hope they continue to beat the crap out of one another.
