whoa has more charm Mr. Anonymous.

Here's a tidbit from Matt Delano an animator here at Fatkat.

>>>If your brush tool is doing wonky thing’s ( and it always seems to) there is a solution to get better lines.

Go to the PENCIL tool, and change its line from straighten to inky, I know it’s the pencil tool, but that somehow effects the brush tool, so if you change it to inky it improves the quality of your line
Significantly! <<<<<<<<

A good starting ground interview Aaron. You got a foot in the door, now perhaps we can ask him some tougher questions and maybe get some answers on where Adobe is taking flash.

Never mind the cowardly anonymous posters. wah, wah, whoa is me.

good on ya for getting him to come on board for the interview.

gene.

"anon - you should ask some questions of your own, maybe he'll toss some answers back at us. i'm sure we'd all be interested in that exchange."

I have just one question -- what *animation* tool have Macromedia/ Adobe introduced since Flash 5?

I can't understand why anyone would choose flash as their animation program, other than the fact that it is cheap and available.

I think Flash has been bad for animation. It has resulting in an overabundance of poorly animated internet trash.

I thought this was a diplomatic whitewash. Interview? It was more like a double act where you kept feeding him the right lines. For animators, ToonBoom and Anime Studio Pro etc are way out in front of Flash, which is already "behind the curve"...Flash hasn't developed much for animators since Flash 5 or before -- it's all been 'boners for programmers'. ColdHardFlash is a great site, and you have done some wonderful interviews, but this wasn't one of them...

This was a great interview, thanks Aaron! I'm always excited for the next version of Flash (though I haven't migrated to CS3 just yet), but you can tell that noninteractive animation is relatively low in their priorities list. And I don't really blame them, especially recently with the explosion of Flash video online, they've got bigger fish to fry. I'll just be happy for anything they upgrade for our benefit.

"AARON: Animators stretch the timelines and file sizes of their Flash files to the maximum limits. Did CS3 add support for animators creating 12-minute episodes with tens of thousands of keyframes and 400mb files?
RICHARD: In every release of Flash we do our best to optimize and improve the performance of the tool, but honestly we don’t test the tool with those parameters. I have seen complex animation samples that go beyond 12 minutes, but I can’t say that the .fla file was in the range of 400MB. If you run into a specific example where the size of the project overwhelms Flash we would like to know the details. That way we can reproduce and test."

This felt like a complete copout to me. When you have 15 year olds who are creating 15 minute-plus animations on newgrounds.com and they complain that flash crashes far too often because they are pushing its limits, you have to admit it is a legitimate issue. Specific examples include Jazza's 'Paladin' series and Chakra-X's 'Nazo Unleashed' series. The finales of these series are indy animation marvels to behold, and the creators complain about their enormous .fla's, publishing times, and frequent crashing.

-elchoaro
