Animax Team Types Out Animation Tips and Tricks
The Emmy-award winning team from Animax have collaborated on a new Flash animation book. CHF regular Dave Wolfe has teamed up with Tim Jones, Allan Rosson and Barry Kelly to write a 350-page book titled Foundation Flash Cartoon Animation, which is now available for $26.39 from Friends of Ed.
The book is split into three phases – pre-production, animation and post-production – and focuses on “real-world issues facing today’s Flash animators.” The authors also touch on After Effects tips, and offer that sometimes this software package is a better option for certain situations.

Hey All-
Are there any preliminary reviews of this book? Just thought someone might’ve gotten a close look and generated an informed opinion.
Cheers – Dave

Congrats, guys! I wish you much success with the book!

Hey Dave,
I don’t think the review copies have been sent out yet unfortunately. But reviewers should get their hands on a copy soon, and if you’re near a Barnes and Noble or Borders then you should be able to find a copy there you can flip through and see if you like it.

Hi Dave-
Good ideas regarding the book and
congratulations on surviving the editing and production. I hope it does well as good Flash books are always welcome!

There’s a sample chapter on the Friends of Ed website
http://www.friendsofed.com/book.html?isbn=1590599128)
After reading the sample I rushed over to Amazon to get the 5% preorder discount – which is still available BTW.

Yeah, the book looks great. I have had my eye on it for a while now. I called my local Borders and they don’t have it in yet, and seems other Borders don’t either. Barnes & Noble’s website says the book isn’t being released till the 28th, so I don’t know what the deal is. I think I’ll order it online. Although, Amazon said it hasn’t been released yet, but today is the release date. What’s up with that?

Hey Justin,
Yeah you’re right it looks like everyone still has it listed as pre-order. Maybe there were some delays with the publisher.

Glad to see a book recognizing After Effects has a possible better animation program/suppliment.
November 20th, 2007 at 2:07 am
Yeah Dave-
Do you know if the book is available as an e-book yet on the Friends of Ed Website? I know it’s up there, but is it actually available yet?
November 20th, 2007 at 4:52 am
I’m pretty sure the eBook is available right now, we were sent the PDF a while ago so I can’t think of any reason why they would delay that. And it’s only $20 if you order the eBook, even though it’s listed as $39.99 on the website.

It looks like Amazon and the other online bookstores were just a couple hours late updating their sites, the book is now shipping on those sites. I guess the stores will be getting them in the next few days.

Hmm… I’m still seeing it as ‘available for pre-order,’ on Amazon, and ‘relased november 28th’ on Barnes & Noble. I guess I’ll check tomorrow.

Thanks Wynne
Justin, I double checked Barnes and Noble and maybe I was just drinking too much of the same cheap wine Aaron’s been on, it does still say pre-order there. But Amazon no longer has the pre-order button…however I just noticed they say it won’t ship for 4-6 weeks.

Thanks Dave-
Yeah I saw that too. I did order it on Amazon, but I’m gonna call some Barnes & Nobles later and find out if they have it. I don’t wanna wait another month! Congrats by the way! Oh and I listed to a breeze presentation you did back in Paril of last year on yoru workflow, on the LA Flash site, and it’s funny cause someone asked you in it if you would ever write a book, and you said you weren’t a writer, hehe. Congrats!

Hmmmm, I swore I saw it regularly available last night on amazon as well….are we all drinking from the same crazy juice? it might a holiday thing.

Well it looks like Barnes & Noble’s website now says it is available and is shipping within 2-3 business days. I cancelled my order at Amazon and ordered it here instead. I just am so psyched to get my hands on it!

I’ve just ordered it from Amazon. Can’t wait to get it. Seems like this book covers exactly what I need to know.

Hey guys, congratulations for the book. I’ve bought and it is amazing. Dave’s extensions are awesome. I just don’t know why you guys haven’t mentioned trick or script in the extensions chapter… it has everything to do with the book. All my team work with their extensions and they have saved our life in the last project. I loved the Flash/After Efx integration that you covered. Congratulations. Rick.
