My thanks to Jon for the nice words about "lines and colors".

I was not, however, the creator of "Spike Webb". My online comic was "Argon Zark!" (http://www.zark.com), in which I was an early adapter of GIF animtion and dHTML animation, but was actually late to use Flash.

I was, though, a beta tester for FutureSplash Animator.

I loved playing with it, and thought it was very cool, but I was reluctant to incorporate it into the strip in '96 because I was put off by the issue of plug-ins. (I started Zark at a time when Mosiac needed a plug-in just to see JPEG images. Also, downloading plug-ins was a different matter over 9.6 and 14.4 modems.)

I have since replaced all of my "Argon Zark!" dHTML animations with Flash, and I now teach a course in Flash at the Delaware College of Art and Deisgn; in which I mention the story, and point out how poor my foresight was in not folowing up on FutureSplash Animator/Flash at the time.

I do remember "Spike Webb", a part prose/part comics illustration web-centric detective story; but unfortunately I can't recall the names of the feature's creators.

My congratulations and thanks to Jon, Robert and Gary for their contribution to animation and the web, and I wish them great success with Greenbox!

Thanks also to CHF for highlighting this important part of web history.

Hmmm, seems that they did initially create Flash with animation in mind, despite the often repeated claims to the contrary.

"Some of the best early animation" out of Seattle were done by animator/directors often mentioned on Cold Hard Flash: Smashing Idea's first employees Joel Trussell and Matt Rodgriguez (now Matt Tamaru). As you know, these guys have serious Flash animation stamina! :)
