i dislike it.. just because when i decided to play it i expected some cool animation, and animation is all about movement and this didn’t have any character movment. Maybe its because i am not familiar with these characters, but i found it really boring. And usually if you are planning to place animated characters into live video you have a tripod to keep the camera stil, i was able to notice the character jump…and it would have taken you alot of time and work to try to get it right.. so tripod might be the way to go
neway goodluck with your next productio

    couple things…

    1. this is boring and what was the point? ok, so you tracked your still art to moving footage. clearly you were inspired by this.

Jake, don’t you think it is unfair to compare an experiment in motion-tracking to a fully realized work? Moreover, to observe that Scott MacDonald was “clearly inspired” by ‘Why Can’t We Be Friends?’ is just plain wrong. It’s not as though “Friends” is the only film to feature motion-tracked characters in an urban environment; pictoplasma has practically turned this type of film into a franchise.

  9. Brent Says:

    Jake,

Parts of “why can’t we be friends” is clearly inspired by the original “blues brothers” elevator scene.

“will” Let’s see your work you played out monkey. This video is Fresh. If you want to only see beautifully fluid animation, open the Disney vaults, curl up with your security blanket, and lock the F*%$#n door behind you. We need more people out there doing whatever they want to do. Thank goodness for the internet, or your voice would never even be heard…where as MacDonald needs to say nothing and will keep producing fantastic work.

Ian - agreed maybe it’s not fair to compare this to three legged legs, or to anything, but isn’t there something to be said about an idea with some kind of story? Sure, cool he was just having fun i get that. I actually really like the guys work, but this style is overly used and i couldn’t tell you how many times i’ve seen characters like this.

Brent - yes it is. i like the blues brothers movie, but who cares. more importantly TLL were inspired by sotto.

TTS - you’re an idiot and you like crap.

  13. tts Says:

Jake– actually I am not an idiot, but I do like some crap.
If you see MacDonalds credits, I am sure they are probably greater than yours. (and if not it means that people really do rise to the level of their stupidity) If so it is probably because he has been acknowledged for his talent. Are you too stupid to do something original?? You are simply another person that needs the internet to fill your shorts.
Do something worth seeing and get it posted so we can see how talented you are muscle man…or does your life depend on animation theory, and nerd talk. Get to work, or go to sleep

  14. jake Says:

Big words for an 18 year old. Everything you just wrote is stupid. Clearly you like this. great, good, fantastic. what does animation theory have anything to do with what i was saying? nerd talk maybe but not theory. kudos for mcdonald learning how to motion track, but do i want to read about people peeing themselves over it? he won me over with his other work on his site. again, i like the guys work. maybe he’ll read this.” i like you dude”. there, does that make you’re hipster self feel better? let me know when you’re done with school, so i can see some of your ORIGNAL ideas?

Jake—can’t wait till I am out of school. With hot air like you in the industry, my assumption is that I will have no problem getting a job:) And for the record, theory has to do with words you offered us based on the content you have watched - which is what you provided. Maybe one of us should have stayed in school a bit longer:) Oh…my mom is calling. I guess it’s my bed time
