Rabid Appreciation for Simon’s Cat
Simon Tofield, one of the many fine animators on the Tandem Films roster, has released the second short in his Simon’s Cat series. I couldn’t dig up much on Tofield, except that he lives in London, but one thing I’m certain of is that he has a cat. Anyone who has lived with a feline or two will say the same - Tofield absolutely nailed cat behavior in these two shorts: Let Me In! (currently on the YouTube homepage) and Cat Man Do, which has been viewed over 4 million times on YouTube so far. Besides his superior skills of animal observation, Tofield also makes exceptional use of one shot. No quick cuts, no crazy camera angles - just one layout, and superb animation acting, all produced in Flash.
Let Me In!
Cat Man Do (alternately titled Wake up Cat)
And just for fun…
Shackman (not produced with Flash)

Very good acting indeed. It’s amazing how even with no change in framing it never gets boring.

Great acting indeed. A great animator.
I think the glass break at the end was the wrong way to go. In my mind keep it about the cat, might have been alot better if he had not wanted in after the door was opened for him. One of my cats used to do that everytime I would go to let her in.
But then again the short couldn’t have ended with “feed me”.
Whatever, just thoughts, the animation is fantastic.

Thanks for posting these cartoons! They are awesome! I hate it when 4 million people know about something before I do.
