Ghostfight – a Ballet of Violence

posted by aaron, 7.23 AM

I’ve always resisted the urge to post stick animation here. The exception occurs when someone transcends the format, like Alan Becker’s Animation vs. Animator. And 25-year old Chinese artist who goes by JustSolo just set the bar a notch higher with Ghostfight: Battle of the Swords, which could pass for high-end gameplay video.

Get the Flash Player to see the wordTube Media Player.

The short is now in the #1 slot at Newgrounds, a site his government won’t even let him view. For screengrabs and project details, check out his blog.

That was fantastic! Talk about your eye candy – what a feast of effects for the eyes!

Whoa!!! Who’d a thunk that stick figures with big swords could be so cool!

Babelfish does a pretty bad job of translating his blog. I see that the swords were done in 3DS Max but anyone know how the motion trails were done? Is that Flash or AE or something straight outta 3ds Max?

And did he generate all the sword animations out of Max 1st then sync the stick figures to them (or vice-versa)?

Anyone out there able to translate his production notes on his blog?

I’d love to get a better understanding of his process. Such slick stuff…
