Bob and Doug Get Their Own TV Series
Animax Entertainment, the LA-based studio that delivered perhaps my favorite animated holiday card last December, have put a new, Flash-animated series in the oven. The Animated Adventures of Bob and Doug McKenzie, which features the two McKenzie Brothers characters created by Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis back in the eighties, is headed to the Canadian network Global Television in January 2009. Beyond that, in this clip below, Thomas hints that a deal with a US broadcaster is in the works. If you wait to the end, you’ll also see a 2-minute promo of the series.

‘Strange Brew’ is one of my favorite films. I hope they make that deal with the U.S. broadcaster. ‘The Animated Adventures’ looks excellent. There’s some very funny bits in the promo.

About time! The original ‘pitch’ animation was featured on the original DVD release of Strange Brew, what, 6 years ago? Congrats to Dave and co. for finally getting the series off the ground!

Strange Brew is as Canadian as Don Cherry and Back Bacon and it’s being produced and animated in L.A.? Might as well ship it off to China and save a few bucks, I hear there’s a few studios there who also know about the tween button. I hope this ends up being really good, they’re tampering with a true classic.

@Honkbarn: Many animated series’ have their animation done in China since it’s the cheapest. Some of the best in fact. That shouldn’t make a difference with quality though. As long as the writing and direction are up to par the rest will follow. I doubt they will be sending it off though since it appears to be done in Flash and there is no need for touching up and in-betweens with that type of animation
