Schiedon Blasts Through Rocket Video
Fons Schiedon, a designer/director residing in Amsterdam, recently partnered with the band Voicst on a music video. Feel Like a Rocket was directed and designed by Schiedon, and animated “traditionally” in Flash, set against backgrounds rendered in Illustrator, Photoshop and Maya. The project was completed in five weeks, thanks in part to the Sao Paolo-based team at BIRDO, who helped on the character animation front, much as they had on Schiedon’s 2006 13-episode run of Mobbed for MTV.

We here at Birdo Studio enjoyed working on this video a lot, and we´re really happy to see it featured here at Cold Hard Flash.
All character animation was done in Flash as all other studio projects, I guess “traditionally” is really adequate since we, err, pretty much draw each frame, while taking lots of advantage of Flash realtime playback, timeline system, etc.
Anyways, none of the technical stuff would be worth it if we didn´t have such nice and inspiring characters and story to work on, and for that , well, we´re really lucky to collaborate with such an incredible director as Fons.

That was pretty awesome. I personally feel that Flash is an extension of “traditional” animation. Especially when each frame is drawn out, digitally, with tablet, mouse, and monitor, or tactilly with pencil, paper and a lunchbox. It’s really just the next progressive step for animation. A positive foot forword in its evolution.
