A Flash Animated Feature is Best of 2008
Wow – never thought I’d see the day. Waltz With Bashir, a Flash-animated documentary film, was just named Best Picture by the The National Society of Film Critics. It is only the second time an animated film has taken this honor (Babe in 1995), and surely the first time a Flash-animated film has taken any major accolade of this magnitude. Mind you – this isn’t your run-of-the-mill “Best Animated Film” award – Ari Folman’s Waltz With Bashir was honored over excellent live-action films like Slumdog Millionaire, Gran Torino and Milk. Another animated film, Wall-E, tied for runner-up in this category. We now turn our attention to the Academy Award nominations, which are only a few weeks away (January 22nd).

This is great news!
But I’m also wondering how much of this was done in Flash?

They’ve said in many interviews and press releases that the project is “a mixture of Flash, 3-D, and traditional animation,” but I’m in the middle of interviewing the team to get the details straight. I’m shooting to have it done in the next couple weeks.
