Animator Mulls Animate
Eddie Mort, one half of the amazing duo behind ¡Mucha Lucha! and Los Campeones De La Lucha Libre, has recently taken Toon Boom Animate out for a test drive. The new software I helped promote late last year has received mostly praise (great filters, drawing tools) and only a few jabs (must render to view effects). Have a peek at the results of Eddie’s tinkering (which has no audio):

I would also like to point out that the backgrounds were also drawn directly in Animate and utlilize the Blur and Glow effects, which are noiw incorporated in the timeline and are easier to use than in Digital Pro

Eddie,
Nice job. I would like to know how your experience compares if you were to do that animation in Flash. I didn’t see anything in that animation that I couldn’t do in Flash.
Check out my review on my blog. Let me know what think. I’d really like to know what you enjoyed about the program.

Jason, I don’t really look to any software to change my animation style; it’s not like Animate is a magic wand. My reasons for using Animate are spelled out on my blogpost; drawing tools feel better, effects render better, and there are better export options – especially to Quicktime. These are the things that have given me the most headaches in Flash

Thanks Eddie. I’d really like to know more about the drawing tools. I really didn’t see a difference. Did the preview resolution/pixeling give you any problems?
I’ll be sure to check your blog.
