Captain Cudney Embarks on the Web
Kyle Marshall’s Triumphant Campaigns Of Captain Cudney played at last year’s Ottawa International Animation Festival, amongst others. It can damage your festival chances if your film has released on the web (a concept I hate), so Marshall had only released a trailer…. ’til now. Batten down your hatches and set sail on a 4-minute adventure with Captain Cudney:

Beautiful stuff. Great character designs, backgrounds and linework. Animation mostly simple but works great. The music was good but I’m not sure it follows the mood of every scene that well. It kind of feels repetitive. Fun to listen, though.

LMAO very creative, very smooth. For a second there, I was convinced he WASN’T gonna take the money, but he DID! LOL the music added for a nice effect, and really helped you connect with the characters. The random acts of violence kept you wondering what was gonna happen, and this is clearly a professional toon with lots of real work. LOL I almost cried when he didn’t take the girl!!!

Very nicly animated, simple yet effective =) i have seen this before tho. They could have slaughtered the natives and taken the jewls =) so when the ship sails away, he’s holding the jewel and then his girl steps into shot and then flashes to burning huts =) but yeah well done

I agree with what every has already said – great design, some funny gags, and some really nice animation and style. The only thing I didn’t buy was the ending – it didn’t feel in the Captain’s character to abandon his love for the girl over his absolute love of money (it was never really established). As mentioned before, it woulda been nice to see him holding the jewel, the volcano erupts, and he kisses the jewel again. Pan out to see the rest of the crew, and rescued female, dancing with the rest of the treasure. I mean, he’s badass enough to beat pirates and giant squids – what’s a bunch of blood thirsty natives? hehe.
Great short overall though.
