Ted Rall’s latest animated short weighs in on Disney’s acquisition of Marvel, and supposes that there may be some redundancy and downsizing in all corners of the business. Legion of Superzeroes was animated with Toon Boom by David Essman.
The Brothers McLeod are finalists in the NHS Choices animation competition, which challenges artists “to find new animated characters to communicate public health messages for the 21st century.” Their creation, The Tokkels, navigates the sensitive topic of Urinary Incontinence with just the right dose of humor.
Did anyone catch last Thursday’s premiere of Archer – the new series from Sealab 2021 and Frisky Dingo co-creator Adam Reed? FX Network sneaked it after It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and the early reviews are strong. The series is being produced in Atlanta at Floyd County Productions (apparently a remnant of 70/30 Productions), and the animation director is UGA-grad Mack Williams, who worked on Frisky Dingo. The show doesn’t return to air until January, but this spy spoof seems like a hit in the making. It appears that FOX’s animation domination is spreading to other networks.
Ryan Honey and his team at Buck recently teamed up with Moscow-based Fibr Film to produce a series of Russian-language spots for Coke’s new energy drink Burn. Buck handled the animated elements you’ll see in these two spots below, and the 2D animation crew included Philip Pignotti, Kathleen Quaife, John Armstrong, Jeff Zikry, Joe Mullen (who also art directed along with Jon Gorman) and Kendra Ryan, while the CG was handled by Steve Day, Matt Everton, Ivan Sokol, Doug Appleton, Andres Weber, Ryan Kirkwood and Randa Mohtady. Flash was used on a majority of the 2D stuff you’ll see:
