Aaron Long’s latest installment from his series Fester Fish is titled Fester Goes Fishing. It’s a bit of a time warp, taking us back to when the industry boasted animation gods like Bob Clampett, Tex Avery and Max Fleischer. What’s not here is the voice-acting. It’s so off-putting that it almost ruins the short, which was lovingly-crafted in Flash over a ten-month period. This type of well-crafted and elaborate piece deserves professional voice work, which should lead to a much bigger audience for this series.
First-year CalArts student Sang Lee used Photoshop to create the environments in this short, and Flash for the character animation. In Hell’s Registrar, we meet the first person you’d meet in the pit of Hell. The designs are solid, and there’s some fun posing and composition going on here, but you’ll also see some choppy, jumpy animation throughout.
Ringling student Cassie Otte has recently been fine-tuning her lip-sync and facial acting skills. Here’s her take on Rihanna’s Complicated.
In a few weeks, kids and teens around the world will be packing up and heading off for camp. I went to a few camps myself, and I never once got to throw dynamite into a lake. Here’s the latest episode of Dick Figures. It’s episode 2 of season 2, and Red and Blue head off to their childhood camp to make a few bucks as camp counselors. Welcome to Camp Anarchy.
Cheyenne Curtis has wrapped up her studies at Sheridan College, but not before producing a final film. The Wish Thief is “about a mischievous hobo who gets joy out of stealing childrens wishes from fountains” and Curtis used Flash, Photoshop and After Effects in the production.
