After the big launch of the series premiere (almost 100k views), Gundarr deserves a snooze. And that’s exactly how we find him at the beginning of episode 2: Crystal Whipped.
Henry Zhang, a student attending the UCLA Animation Workshop, directed and animated this new short, titled Be Quiet. The 3-minute film was produced using Flash and After Effects.
Arin Hanson’s continues his animated Awesome series with a riff on L.A. Noire, the new crime game set in the late 1940s. In Awesome Noire, we meet Cole Phelps, an LAPD Officer with a better than average handle on his trusty pencil.
Some high-quality stuff from Mike Carlo just landed in my inbox. It’s a 4-minute, Flash-animated short titled Science Fare that seems likely to end up being pitched to CN, Nick, Disney and the rest. Mike Carlo directed and animated, with some help from Joey Cappabianca on the animation front. Lot’s of ‘traditional’ animation in here – solid designs and vivid characters. Kinda surprised that this was NSFW… but sure enough there’s an Fbomb half way through.
Justin Nieuwland was recently commissioned by Lake of Stew, six-piece acoustic string band from Montreal, to create this throwback music video for the track Hey Bully. It’s a beautifully crafted homage to early, rubber-hose animation from the likes of Bill Nolan and Ub Iwerks. Nieuwland directed and edited and he had a small crew helping animate (full credits below).
