COLD HARD FLASH
Flash Empowers

Kurt Nielsen, a designer and Flash-animator we’ve featured here a few times in the past, has completed a new music video for the Irish-English singer-songwriter Gilbert O’Sullivan. It’s actually the second video Nielsen has produced for O’Sullivan, the first was for the uniquelly named track Ooh Wakka Doo Wakka Day.

The new video is for a song that seems destined for some sort of brand-licensing – Where Would We Be (Without Tea). The characters, backgrounds and the music itself walk us all back to the 60s and 70s. One interesting fact – actual tea was used in the production. Nielsen used watercolor mixed with brewed tea to produce the backgrounds.

After posting a few short episodes here on CHF, I was an instant fan of Gundarr. It’s the creation of Corey McDaniel and Ted Wilson, and I subsequently invited them to start making full episodes for Mondo’s YouTube channel. And so with barbaric furiosity, McDaniel and Wilson set of on an epic journey that spawned this first episode and many more to come. New installments will launch every other Wednesday. Here’s Duck a la Rage.

I’d like to aim your eyes at a new student short titled Dr. Decapus, a 1-minute film by Scott Lewis. Its a bit of a Dr. Frankenstein story, and it’s filled with solid drawings and stylish enviroments. Lewis produced the short in Toon Boom Harmony while studying at Algonquin College in Ottawa.
