You may have spotted Sheridan graduate Amir Avni’s short The Barley Way over on CartoonBrew the other day. Avni used Flash in the production of the beautifully-drawn short, but in the wake of the film’s launch, he’s found himself deflecting numerous “John K ripoff” comments. Say what you want, but the guy can animate and draw. And to get some interesting perspective on this topic, go back 13 years to 1998, when Avni mailed his now-famous letter to Kricfalusi. John K responded with wisdom and encouragement, and an internet phenomenon was hatched.

David Firth’s latest Flash-animated work is titled Take This Pill, a sequel to his 2007 short Health Reminder:

A new Flash-animated show premiered last night on Mondo Media’s YouTube channel. Off the Curb is an improvised show performed by a rather amazing cast – Carlos Alazraqui (Rocko on Rocko’s Modern Life), Cedric Yarbrough (Deputy S. Jones on Reno 911!), John DiMaggio (Jake on Adventure Time), Gary Anthony Williams (Uncle Ruckus on The Boondocks) and Fred Tatasciore (Damon Baird in Gears of War). The series is lead by Alazraqui, designed by Heather Dunn who also animated the short along with Chris Spry.

The latest installment of Dick Figures set sail last week, hoisting up an homage to summertime pirate-themed blockbusters. And in true Dick Figures style, the episode is also an homage to pina coladas, sushi and breasts. The 16th episode of the series, titled Captain Red Rum & The Pina Colada Armada, was released along with the sound track to Season 1 – now available on iTunes.
