Last week we featured Angela Kim’s Sheridan short Orlegi, and this week we’ve got some of her commercial work to show. She was called into Guru Studios to help design and animate this spot for Community Bank, which was directed by Matt Hammill.
Here’s a new, Flash-animated TV spot for by Crunchdog, a studio in Poland. Pretty simply stuff here, but it moves nicely. The service here is Heyah, a pay-as-you-go cellphone service.
Flash animator Nathan Mazur was the animation muscle behind the 10 million view YouTube sensation Do You Like Waffles? It was a music video for Nerf Herder lead singer Parry Gripp’s song, and something cool happened after that. Here’s Mazur’s recounting, “recently, Arby’s contacted us about doing an ad for them. I jokingly suggested we rework the waffles song and make it for roast beef, Arby’s main food item. Turns out, that’s exactly what they were looking for.”
If you’re gonna do merch, which is a very tough business with often overestimated potential, take a page from Harry Partridge’s sales book (or Andy Sykes’). Undersell your desire for big bucks, and make it funny. Partridge is selling a select few items thru Sharkrobot, and getting his ad in the top 50 most watched videos on YouTube is his secret sauce:
Following up on their confused.com spots from 2010, Hornet Inc’s directing duo Dan & Jason have produced yet another musical-style animated spot. This one revolves around the Diana Ross track Chain Reaction, and is no less ambitious than the previous ads.
