Dan & Jason – Man Team

On the heels of developing their Office Buddies series with 20th Century Fox, the animation directing duo known as Dan & Jason have revealed their latest creation – Man Team. It’s a Flash-animated buddy comedy that mixes in a political slant, skewering the likes of Herman Cain. They had help on the short from animators Keelmy Carlo, Alan Foreman, Mike Luzzi, and Mary Varn.

Kilogramme Team Gives Flight To Angels Inc

Claire Grey, Craig Knowles and David Ridges, an in-house team at Kilogramme, recently spent 6 weeks producing this 6-minute comedy pilot titled Angels Inc. The team utilized Flash, 3DS Max and After Effects. Here you’ll meet Bernard, a guardian angel, whose performance isn’t stellar:

Santaman Unwraps His Fist For Christmas

In association with Comberry Studios, Shanghai-based artist Daniel N. Djanie, wrote and directed this 11-minute, Flash-animated proof of concept titld Santaman – The Patron Saint of Justice. It re-imagines the Santa Claus origin story, establishing him as more of a Batman-esque superhero. Djanie worked with a small, enthusiastic team who essentially worked with zero budget. Some of the dialog is clunky, and could use some comedic one-liners, but overall it’s designed quite well.

Revisiting Chicken Heaven

Last year we featured the title sequence from Dunce Bucket, one of the pilots that emerged from the Teletoon Detour Pilot Project. Below is the first segment from the pilot, titled Chicken Heaven, which was designed by Riccardo Durante and directed by Mark Ackland. Ackland and Durante also animated the piece. The entire 23-minute pilot can be viewed online.

Milburn Summits Mt. Feathertop

Nath Milburn’s graduation film from Savannah College of Art & Design is a 10-minute, Flash-animated short titled http://www.mtfeathertop.com (which we teased back in April). We’re introduced to a group of clouds who attend a prestigeous academny that helps students learn weather control. Milburn gave himself the challenge of producing a TV pilot in a relatively short period of time. He had help on the animation effort from Xavier Robles de Medina, Jeremiah Gallardo and Xavier Palin.

Six Point Fueled Gypsy Cab Animation

Back in 2009, Comedy Central announced that they were developing a new animated series “featuring “30 Rock” star Judah Friedlander as a wacked out gypsy cab driver whose great ambition in life is to top everyone around him.” It was created by comedian Jordan Rubin and co-developed by Six Point Harness Studios. Gypsy Cab never made it out of development, but some development animation was produced. Here’s two segments that Rubin recently unveiled:

Cartoon Network Pilots Emerge From London

The US launch of The Amazing World of Gumball, which we’ve been covering over on Lineboil, is scheduled for May 9th, and it will be the first series to emerge from the London-based Cartoon Network Development Studio Europe team. This group, which is helmed by Daniel Lennard, is tasked with incubating new series, and you’re about to get a sneak peek at the next contenders. Six 3-minute pilots, some of which has been finished for 2 years, and all of which were produced in Flash (in concert with Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects), are now available for viewing on the YouTube. I’m including my particular favorites below, but they’re all worth a look. I feel like I should almost break this into several posts, because these videos include some of the best Flash-animation we’ll post all year. Bradford Floats the Idea For Bubble Hub

Check out William Bradford’s animated pitch, titled Bubble Hub. The show follows “two teenage twins with nothing in common.” Very cool designs, unique storytelling and lively animation. Bradford works by day at DHX Media in Vancouver, and he’s a graduate of Capilano University.

Wonky Team Aims To Put iLand On the Map

Here’s a sample segment from a new series concept from Wonky Films and Scrawl Studios. It’s titled iLand, a Flash-animated project aimed at 6-12 years olds. The one and only Peter Peake (Aardman) is the writer behind the project, and what you see here was directed by Miki Cash and Joe Wood.
