Sabrina Cotugno is part of the 2012 Class at CalArts, the mighty visual and permorming school North of Los Angeles. For her second-year Film, Sabrina staged a battle between Haruki-chan, the prince of bugs, and a fierce Owl. The Flash-animated short is titled Night Parade, and her gorgeous layouts and color palette weave a wonderful story that apparently charmed the organizers of the CalArts Producer’s Show, which she was selected for this year.
Belated congratulations go out to Marylène Pourcelot on graduating from the French art school e-art sup Institut. She spent 14 months on her 3-minute gradutation film, titled Rococo, laboring on lavish environments in Photoshop, and subtle animation timing in Flash. The timing is a bit on the sluggish side (perhaps just in the middle), but the environments and enjoyable twist at the end make for a strong short. [NSFW - tasteful nudity]
Felix Colgrave, who lives on the island of Tasmania in Australia, has submitted a rather epic Flash-animated short to Newgrounds, titled The Pigpen. It’s an abstract story dealing with drug addiction, and it’s the result of 6 months of work during his studies at The Don College in their Digital Media section. Thanks to Ajay Karat and Sean McKenzie for the story tip.

In May of this year, Ben Hu proved that he can overcome procrastination. The result was Homework Hydra, a clever, 2-minute, Flash-animated short created as his 4th-year thesis at the Sheridan Animation Program. He drew it somewhat “traditionally” in Flash with a tablet, and then did clean-ups with a Cintiq monitor. Congrats on graduation, Ben!
Ben Thompson and Andres Silva (Makinita) created this super-wacky class-project commercial for the hypothetical cereal Sugar Goulies. The two are attending Fanshawe College in Ontario, Canada.
