COLD HARD FLASH
Flash Empowers

On October 2nd, Adult Swim will reveal their latest animated series, Brad Neely’s China, IL, which has an 10 episode pick-up. Titmouse, Inc is handling the animation out of their LA-office. Mike Mayfield, who I was lucky to work with years ago on his pilot Boogies, is serving as the Supervising Director, Grif Kimmins is the Animation Director on the series, while Daniel Weidenfeld (EP of Super Deluxe, brother of Adult Swim exec Nick Weidenfeld) is co-EP of the show. The original 4-part web series was produced in Neely’s signature ‘slideshow’ format, but the TV series is being “fully” animated in Flash. Gone is Neely’s organic, inky line quality, and that’s going to take some getting used to, but I’m thinking we’re in for something special next month. Here’s a behind-the-scenes assembly, hot out of the oven:

Last year we featured the title sequence from Dunce Bucket, one of the pilots that emerged from the Teletoon Detour Pilot Project. Below is the first segment from the pilot, titled Chicken Heaven, which was designed by Riccardo Durante and directed by Mark Ackland. Ackland and Durante also animated the piece. The entire 23-minute pilot can be viewed online.

The pilot for Adult Swim’s upcoming series Black Dynamite airs tomorrow on the telly box, but you can already watch it on the web, which is what you’re currently using, in case there was any doubt. Production is being handled at Titmouse.

I sat in the premiere screening of the Good Vibes pilot at Comic-con earlier this month, and the buzz I’d heard on the show was confirmed. The writing is solid, and while the series relies a bit too much on pop culture gags (Paris Hilton and Kardashian jokes), I’m going to predict this one goes for multiple seasons. That said, Adam Brody, Seth on The O.C., is way out of his depth in the role of Woodie, and his work on the show could single-handedly pull this series down, but Danny McBride is also in the cast so it sorta balances out. Six Point Harness very capably handles the animation and the series premieres on MTV Thursday, October 27 at 10:30/9:30c.

Scott Sanders’ 2009 feature Black Dynamite is making the unlikely move into TV on August 8th. The live-action feature, while a critical success, grossed less than $300,000 at the box office after a run in only 70 theaters. That didn’t stop the Adult Swim team from greenlighting an animated series (the end credits of the feature were animated), which is being produced out of Titmouse and directed by Carl Jones. Here’s the teaser:
