Luis Gadea was so ready to wrap up school, he produced two graduation shorts. Here’s his second, titled Wait for me under the lamp post. He animated in Flash during his studies in the Classical Animation program at the Vancouver Film School.
Last year we featured the title sequence from Dunce Bucket, one of the pilots that emerged from the Teletoon Detour Pilot Project. Below is the first segment from the pilot, titled Chicken Heaven, which was designed by Riccardo Durante and directed by Mark Ackland. Ackland and Durante also animated the piece. The entire 23-minute pilot can be viewed online.
Justin Nieuwland was recently commissioned by Lake of Stew, six-piece acoustic string band from Montreal, to create this throwback music video for the track Hey Bully. It’s a beautifully crafted homage to early, rubber-hose animation from the likes of Bill Nolan and Ub Iwerks. Nieuwland directed and edited and he had a small crew helping animate (full credits below).

I’d like to aim your eyes at a new student short titled Dr. Decapus, a 1-minute film by Scott Lewis. Its a bit of a Dr. Frankenstein story, and it’s filled with solid drawings and stylish enviroments. Lewis produced the short in Toon Boom Harmony while studying at Algonquin College in Ottawa.
Cheyenne Curtis has wrapped up her studies at Sheridan College, but not before producing a final film. The Wish Thief is “about a mischievous hobo who gets joy out of stealing childrens wishes from fountains” and Curtis used Flash, Photoshop and After Effects in the production.
