Hao Leaps Into Music Video For Vektormusik

After more than a half-year of production, Qian Hao has completed his latest university project, a music video for the Vektormusik track leap2. Quan had help on the Flash animation from Li Qing and Li Man, students at the China Academy Of Art, who also used After Effects in the process.

Earthsaver Draws Upon Dreams

A Shanghai-based animated who goes by the handle Earthsaver produced this Flash-animated film about a gradute student’s nightmare. We meet him in class, which shifts into his dreamspace, where he fights off a girl with very dangerous pony tails. The film is titled The Scream in Your Dream.

Nutmeat Draws Blood For Al-Qaeda PSA

Hong Kong-based Nutmeat Studios produced this striking PSA using Flash and After Effects. The team used what appears to be some rotoscoping techniques along with some more standard tweening effects. The PSA is titled Blood Wudu:

Vincent Counterattacks With Kungfu Bunny 3

Way back in 2007, we featured a Chinese animator’s short, titled Kungfu Bunny. The animator, named Vincent, mixed stop-motion animation of his work space with Flash animation to produce a highly enjoyable result. A few months ago, the third installment of this now wildly popular series has arrived, and Vincent is now producing with a crew of 10, including a producer, a cameraman and an assistant animator. Together they’ve really upped the ante – including all sorts of camera movement and far more elaborate animation. Here’s Kungfu Bunny 3 – Counterattack.

The making of that shows all the wiring they used to build the stop-motion plates.

Chinese Studios Deliver Olympic Animation

Just in time for opening ceremonies in Beijing, Cheerland Entertainment and Itscartoon Animation Studios have joined forces to deliver an Olympic themed animated series. Olympics Is In Our Family combines Flash animation with 3D environments to delivery a rich looking world. If your Mandarin is rusty, I recommend more Ni Hao, Kai-Lan.

Ghostfight – a Ballet of Violence

I’ve always resisted the urge to post stick animation here. The exception occurs when someone transcends the format, like Alan Becker’s Animation vs. Animator. And 25-year old Chinese artist who goes by JustSolo just set the bar a notch higher with Ghostfight: Battle of the Swords, which could pass for high-end gameplay video.

The short is now in the #1 slot at Newgrounds, a site his government won’t even let him view. For screengrabs and project details, check out his blog.

An Animated Chapter From Sukki’s Story

In 2005, Hong Kong based artist Thomas Leung created a very personal animated short titled Sukki’s Story. It’s a touching, thoughtful piece, and Leung obviously crafted the short with a great deal of love and attention. He utilized a labyrinth of software to bring the film to life, including Flash, which was used to rotoscope live-action footage.

In this assembly, Leung illustrates the process he used in creating the film.

Beijing-based Hutoon Animation is producing Blow Up The Schools, a mixed-media series focusing on school violence. The character animation is produced in Flash, while the sets appear to be collage.

BoBo&ToTo Deliver Belated Holiday Gift
