A Couple Clips

The first set is from Michael Foster, an animator out of Orange County, New York. He and a friend are currently working on a short film, and they’ve released not one, but two short clips for our viewing pleasure. Michael also has a company called Salty Graphics, which is responsible for a 3D project called ‘The Beans – a Silent But Deadly Fight.’

Next up is a clip from Ron Doucet. He’s been featured here on CHF recently, for his work on the MSTRKRFT music video, and his website is chock-full of great posts. A while back, he posted an short clip he animated for ‘Johnny Test,’ a show for which I produced the pilot (and the logo!) about 2 years ago. The show went to air and the first season wasn’t produced in Flash, and then it was picked up again. Is season 2 being produced in Flash up at Collideascope?

Ron Doucet and Mike White of Collideascope Digital Productions recently finished a music video for the electronic band MSTRKRFT. It’s for the band’s song ‘Work on You,’ and it’s a gorgeous video, completed entirely in Flash. The team took advantage of Flash’s ability to cycle and re-use, but there’s also a great many traditionally animated shots that push this video over the top.

The production team drew on inspiration from 80s cel-animated shows like ‘Transformers,’MSTRKRFT is the brainchild of Jesse F. Keeler (JFK) and Al Puodziukas (ALP). The production team included, among others, Derek Jessome, Jeff Knott, David Sourwine and animators Bianca Siercke and Rachel Morrison. The project was chronicled in a 2-part documentary that you can see below.

PART 2

Collideascope was featured here back in January. Did I hear Mike call them ‘Collidea-ma-scope’ in the first part of that doc? Ron’s award-winning, Flash-animated short ‘The Chase,’ was recently discussed in the CHF message boards.

I’ve been following Collideascope Digital for a while now, but I’ve never given them the spotlight they deserve. They’re an animation and new media company located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, headed up by M-A Kuttner and Steven Comeau. They’ve been at it since 1995, and lay claim to being one of the first Flash animation studios in the world, with a short airing on television in 1999.

They’ve created and animated 2 Flash series, ‘Olliver’s Adventures’ and ‘Delilah and Julius.’

Collideascope is also the studio that animated ‘Bromwell High,’ ‘Girlstuff/Boystuff’ and ‘Farzzle’s World.’
