Early last month, Nobel Prize winner Al Gore spoke at the Technology Entertainment Design (TED) conference in Monterey, California. He delivered a shortened version of the world’s most famous PowerPoint presentation, the slide show that turned into the Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth. The video of Gore’s 30-minute speech can be seen at the TED website, but below you can view a short segment pulled from the middle. It features Dave Schlafman’s Flash-animated PSA, Sky is Falling, which won Current TV’s Sixty Seconds to Save the Earth contest. We’ve now featured this short on the site 3 times, but it’s just cool to see Al Gore introduce it.
Rambo would surely agree that the terrorists drew “first blood,” right? So he’s bringing the fight to them in the latest installment from Current TV’s SuperNews! In Rambo vs. Terror Pt. 1, John Rambo teams up with Erik Prince, the billionaire CEO of Blackwater USA, and along with a few blood-thirsty battle-pals Yosemite Sam, Boba Fett and The Predator, they head out to kick some terrorist butt.
Josh Faure-Brac and the SuperNews team have placed their longest episode yet under the YouTube tree. It’s a spoof of Frank Capra’s 1946 film It’s a Wonderful life. While the original film was actually a box-office disappointment, this episode, It’s a Horrible Life, delivers with dialog like “You can’t abort me - I’m in my 187th trimester” and “I wish I was never born-did.”
Current TV’s SuperNews series has released a brand new episode - Becks Strikes the USA. Hollywood’s most recent import, David and Victoria Beckham, are joined by Rolly the Football, and together they try to re-introduce the Spice Girls and teach us how to love soccer. Along the way the gang wrecks Tom & Katie’s mansion and gets some new nicknames from W.
Schlafman, who currently lives in Boston, submitted his Flash-animated short titled Sky Is Falling, which he created hoping people would “think about how much crap we pump into the air” The film was announced yesterday as the Grand Prize winner. For his troubles, David will drive away with a Toyota Highlander Hybrid. The short can be seen at the Current TV website, or you can watch it below.
Evan Sussman joined David in the production effort, completing all of the FX and compositing. Schlafman lauds Sussman’s work, calling him “a master of combining flash and After Effects.”
The tagline for the 1984 film Against All Odds was “Sometimes love is the most dangerous game of all.” CurrentTV’s SuperNews team puts that lense onto the relationship between President George W. Bush and his ex-Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove. In a episode titled Goodbye, Mr. Rove, Bush and his old pal Karl sing Phil Collins’ Oscar-winning, title track Against All Odds to eachother. SuperNews muses about their plans to wage Operation Daddy’s Revenge and the subsequent decline in the President’s approval.
In their latest episode, Josh Faure-Brac and his SuperNews team point their clever animated cameras at the Hollywood crowd that star in MTV’s hit reality series The Hills. In the Flash-animated episode The Hills (post apocalypse), Lauren, Heidi, Audrina and Whitney somehow survive a nuclear holocaust, and so do their petty relationship battles.
