Michael Levine’s Pileated Picturesdelivered a huge volume of animation for Hasbro’s new board game – Trivial Pursuit Dvd For Kids. It released this summer, and the game, which is aimed at kids 8 and up, is currently going for $29.99 over at Amazon.com.
I got my hands on a copy, and briefly played around with the DVD. It’s set up like a TV show – with episodes, and the game is sold as ‘Season 1.’ I recorded some footage from the game and cut together a short assembly.
A Brazilian Flash animation site called Mundo Canibal seems to have captivated the nation. The site hosts dozens (hundreds?) of short animated clips, all narrated by in a pitched-up screetch that will burst your eardrums. Some of the shorts are topical – making fun of Tom Cruise or Star Wars – but most are original characters.
The most popular shorts have been viewed millions of times, and the most popular, a short called ‘Avaiana de Pau,’ has been seen over 8 million times. It appears the short is about homemade shoes and the pain they can inflict. Most of the shorts seem to rely heavily on poop, screaming, and then more screaming.
The site has seen so much success that they’ve released a DVD filled with 40 of the web episodes and 5 special bonus episodes. They’ve released a short trailer of the DVD that you can view on the site.
Mundo Canibal is also hawking a Flash animation tutorial book written by the brothers Piologo. The cover features one of the characters from Mundo Canibal.
Don’t miss the short Chuck Norris clip. He’s incredibly powerful and focused, and they capture his essence perfectly.
The six-part, breakout, online animated series, ‘Xombie,’ is ramping up for a feature-length DVD release. James Farr is the one-man army behind the ‘Xombie.’ It’s “written, funded, storyboarded, animated, edited and published” by James, and up until now, he’s only looked elsewhere for voice work. But that all seems to be changing. Wetsand Animation is a Canadian animation house that specializes in Flash productions, and Brian Finlay, the CEO, is now throwing his resources into the project.
According to an interview over at horrormovies.ca, the DVD release “will be a re-telling of the story everyone’s familiar with. It’s been expanded upon, and amped up. So while we’re covering familiar terrain, there are plenty of new twists and surprises to look forward to.” The DVD is currently expected ‘sometime in 2006.’
