CHF regular David Schlafman has taken the top prize in Current TV’s Sixty Seconds to Save the Earth contest. The contest, which began in early July, was promoted by Cameron Diaz on YouTube, and then pushed by Al Gore on his blog.

Schlafman, who currently lives in Boston, submitted his Flash-animated short titled Sky Is Falling, which he created hoping people would “think about how much crap we pump into the air” The film was announced yesterday as the Grand Prize winner. For his troubles, David will drive away with a Toyota Highlander Hybrid. The short can be seen at the Current TV website, or you can watch it below.

Evan Sussman joined David in the production effort, completing all of the FX and compositing. Schlafman lauds Sussman’s work, calling him “a master of combining flash and After Effects.”

Jason Archer and Paul Beck, who go by the handle Archer$Beck, have added their statement to the Live Earth movement. This summer’s event, which was held on July 7th, included dozens of high-profile directors and their shorts about combating climate change.

Archer$Beck’s film Cough, Cold and High Fever delivered a serious message, and utilized both Anime Studio and Flash in the production effort. Archer$Beck both animated on Richard Linklater’s Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly features. Head over the the Hornet Inc. website to watch, and check out a write-up at digitalartsonline.co.uk.

As part of the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, The Sundance Channel is hosting an online animation competition called Greenimation, which challenged artists to use environmental issues in their work. The winner of the competition is awarded a series, so vote early and often (you can vote once a day).

Animax Entertainment submitted a Flash-animated short titled Meet the Banes, who aren’t exactly the poster-family for environmental conciousness. If you listen closely, you’ll hear the vocal stylings of Dave Thomas, and actor your might recall from Strange Brew, SCTV and Arrested Development. Thomas is also a founder of Animax Entertainment.

Other Flash-animed work in competition is Joe Corrao’s entry titled Going Green, or Else and Bob Fox’s buddy short titled Breakfast (I think it’s in Flash).
