Damn the calendar - the holiday season is in full-effect here at CHF. We were out in the week leading up to the holiday rush, and missed a few great holiday-themed Flash-animated shorts.

Chris Georgenes, the man behind mudbubble.com, brings his daughter Andrea back into the recording booth for another holiday short. Back in 2006, she wrote her Christmas list, but this year it’s time for a song:

Tiny Inventions, a children’s entertainment development company, crafted this holiday-themed short using characters from their pre-k property In My Bag.

The irrepressible Pascal Campion animated a Flash-animated holiday short welcoming in the new year.Eric Pringle’s series Prophet Buddy debuted a holiday short that explores two of the religious groups that celebrate in December.

And the gang at Weebl’s Stuff created this unusual twist on the Christmas holiday - Mr. Christmas Pudding For a Head.

Chris Georgenes, the man behind Mudbubble and keyframer.com packed the house in Boston for his 2007 Flashforward presentation Animation Tips and Tricks. Georgenes, a self-taught animator, invited a special guest to his presentation - his daughter, Andrea, who also happens to star in several of Chris’ shorts. As promised, Georgenes posted all of the FLA files from his presentation so we can all dive in and tinker. Below is the opening clip from his presentation.

Also check out Chris’ photos from the event on flickr.

Chris Georgenes, an Adobe Community Expert, has released a new book about Flash animation and design. How to Cheat in Flash CS3 is 280 pages of practical tutorials, including a chapter from CHF community member Dave Logan on JSFL extensions for animation. You’ll also find a chapter about how JibJab creates its bitmap animation, which I helped wrangle.

The book is doing extremely well over at Amazon, and has been #1 in the “animation” category for weeks.

Pileated Pictures has been in the Flash animation game since the beginning. They’ve since added a strong 3D animation focus, but they continue to produce in Flash, including recent work for the PBS show ‘Between The Lions.’ Pileated has created over a dozen animated shorts for the show, a a music video (mov), and now 3 children’s stories they’re calling “animated books.” The first of these, ‘Coyote and Rabbit, was animated in Flash. PBS will airing them in the new season which just started in April. Below that is ‘Stolen Smells,’ which is also worth a watch.

One of these animated books was produced primarily in Flash, and animated by Joe Corrao (4 Eyed Animation), who was also an early entrant into the Flash animation world. Way back in 1999, he started releasing things like ‘The Sluggy and Poppo Show,’ and more recently, ‘Just Say I Didn’t Know.’ The music video mentioned above features a character design style that might look familiar. It’s the work of Chris Georgenes, the man behind Mudbubble. Chris animated the majority of that piece, but here was also a great deal of After Effects work and a touch of 3D.
