Celebrating Oral Health Month, New Zealand’s Studio 2 program recently unleashed The Adventures of the Colgate Taste Buddies Competition. Kids were challenged to create a comic strip featuring the Colgate Taste Buddies, and the winning submission would be animated by Mukpuddy, the New Zealand-based Flash-animation studio.

The winners were Liam and Rachel Thompson, and after their character designs were polished by the Muks, the short went into a blindingly-fast 2 week production. You can see pre-production materials over at the Mukpuddy blog and below is the resulting animated short.

Back in December, you were introduced to New Zealand’s finest Flash house, Mukpuddy. Their strong design sense mixed with fluid animation is on exhibit again in a music video (Quicktime 7 - 6.9mb) they produced for the band Pluto. It’s for the New Zealand band’s song ‘Baby Cruel’ and The Muks created the video in just 3 weeks. While it’s fairly static, it goes to show why Flash has become the goto choice for those with modest budgets. The record label also commissioned a 1-minute animated Pluto skit featuring these same animated likenesses, which can be seen here. As with the music video, it was created entirely in Flash.
