COLD HARD FLASH
Flash Empowers

Our 2008 Comic-Con coverage continues (2 months after the event), with our Tom Fulp interview. Fulp, as you may know, is the founder of Newgrounds.com and also a partner in the gaming company The Behemoth. In this 3-minute interview below, we cover the launch of Castle Crashers, new figurines for sale, tricks for succeeding on Newgrounds (be original and team up with other talented folks) and Tom’s continued collaborations with animator Dan Paladin. And make sure you pay attention to the people standing behind us wearing what looks like toilet seats around their necks. Oh Comic-con, how I love you.

This isn’t our first interview with Tom. Check out Tom The Tank Engine, our 2-part interview from 2005. And another big thanks to the team at Mondo Media for the help producing this interview – especially to Jason Costello and Nate Johnson, the man behind the camera.

The long-awaited follow-up to The Behemoth’s side-scroller Alien Hominid has officially launched. Last week Castle Crashers went live on Xbox Live Arcade, and the reviews around the web of this Flash-animated game are resoundingly positive, including this IGN video review below.

Congrats to the gang at The Behemoth, Dan Paladin and to Tom Fulp, who is also the founder of Newgrounds.com.

Clocking in at over 5 minutes, There She Is!! Step 4 is slower-paced and darker than the previous 3 episodes. This 5-part series of Flash-animated shorts is produced by the Korean team SamBakZa, and directed by an artist who goes by amalloc. The storyline has consistently maintained an undercurrent of inter-racial tension, but in this fourth installment brings this thread to a boil. Episode 4 is titled Paradise.

The series is also available at Newgrounds, where this current episode is ranked #1.

It’s been over 3 years since the last episode of There She Is!!, which have been viewed over 2 million times at Newgrounds.com. The latest episode in this romantic series, which is set for a total of 5, is titled Doki & Nabi, a female rabbit and a male cat, respectively. The series was created by SamBakZa, an animation trio in Korea. Thanks to Sean McKenzie for the story tip.

Dungeons and Dragons fans the world around are reveling in a whole slew of releases which comprise the much anticipated 4th edition. This will include a new Player’s Handbook, Monster Manual, and Dungeon Master’s Guide, essential texts for players of D&D, which was created by the late Gary Gygax. Adam Phillips, the creative wizard behind the wildly popular Brackenwood series, has produced a series of animated “job interviews” commemorating the upcoming releases.

You can see two more of these interviews here and here.

In other Adam Phillips news, his Flash-animated short Waterlollies was recently honored with the Newgrounds Tank Award for Best Flash Animation of 2007.
