Watch the Premiere Episode of Qumi-Qumi

Back in February, we featured the teaser for a new, Flash-animated TV series out of Russia, titled Qumi-Qumi. In this first, 13-minute episode below, you’ll see that it’s full of world-class design, both in characters and environments. The look is also quite unique, especially the characters. The series was created at Moscow-based Toonbox Studio, and in each episode you’ll visit a world inhabited by creatures divided into three nations who all speak one completely made-up language. This episode was directed by Vladimir Ponomarev and produced by Pavel Muntyan.

Toonbox Unveils the World of Qumi-Qumi

The team at Moscow-based Toonbox Studio have begun producing a new serialized show, titled Qumi-Qumi. This is the name of the country inhabited by mysterious creatures who don’t talk but instead they make sounds and act out their feelings. Here’s the teaser:

Russian-native Nadya Mira is currently attending Gobelins in Paris, and working Flash into her bag of tricks. This 12-second clip, titled Rocketman, shows great promise.

Adui Slices Open Harakiri Animated Short

Sergey Ratnikov (aka Adui) is a Russian illustrator/animator who was recently hired to produce this short below. Without giving too much away, we watch a number of people perform harakiri, a ritual suicide. The short promotes the website zakaz-harakiri.ru where I believe you can choose who most deserves to die.

The gang at Toonbox recently produced this mixed-media spot for the travel website anywayanyday.com. If you don’t speak Russian, you can just stare at the beautiful merger of miniature sets and Flash animation. The spot was produced by Pavel Muntyan and directed by Arthur Merkulov.

Here’s the latest short from the Russian studio Toonbox. It’s based on a poem by Sasha Svirsky, an artist working at the studio. It’s in Russian, and the story deals with an abstract word, Khabrahol, imagined by Svirsky and the word’s untimely fate.
