Current begins airing half-hour episodes of SuperNews on Friday at 10 pm ET/PT, but they just posted a teaser segment on YouTube. Here’s Twouble with Twitters. (134 characters – YES!)
As we reported here on CHF back in November, Current’s animated series SuperNews is readying a whole new run of half-hour episodes. Our response to that was “der – of course.” We’ve loved SuperNews since we saw The Immigration Debate, so this leap to long-form is overdue. Series creator, writer and EP Josh Faure-Brac calls this new order of shows “dangerous,” so expect the gloves to slide off, and the brass knuckles to slide on. Celebrities and politicians appear to get their fair share of pies in the face, but like the shorts, technology gets a center seat in the dunk tank, including Friendster, Emoticons and Twitter (“I forgot how much I like pickles”). The half-hour episodes premiere on March 20th at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Current TV and Current.com. Current is currently seen in more than 51 million households. Here’s a teaser:
In Mark Glaser’s recent interview with SuperNews creator Josh Faure-Brac, we’ve learned that the show has been greenlit for 10 half-hour episodes. According to the lengthy PBS.org interview, these new long-form comedy episodes will hit the airwaves in late January. Here’s a quote from the interview that details some of what we might expect:
JOSH: We’re building the staff up and using a lot of the concepts you’ve seen on our previous shorts, like the Social Networking Wars. We’re taking those characters of Friendster, MySpace and Facebook and having them live in an apartment together, a la Three’s Company with a laugh track. They’re always trying to get girls over, and trying to keep Friendster out of the loop.

Thanks to Simon Owens for the story tip.
Just in time for the biggest dogfight of the year, SuperNews sends up the US Election with a 2:30 minute quickie titled Top Gov. This Flash-animated show spoofs the 1985 feature film Top Gun, but swaps in Sarah Palin (Moose) for Anthony Edwards (Goose) and John McCain appropriately in Tom Cruise’s career-defining role as Maverick.
Funny stuff – ranks right up there with Tarantino’s Top Gun dissection.
The latest animated SuperNews episode is part of a 25-minute “Super Block,” titled SuperNews Does the Internet, that features their very first live-action interstitials. Josh Faure-Brac, the creator of SuperNews, stars in these video segments, which are inter-cut between 3 Flash-animated, internet-themed SuperNews episodes, one of which is new – Internet Porn and You (starts around 2 minutes).
