Revisiting Chicken Heaven

Last year we featured the title sequence from Dunce Bucket, one of the pilots that emerged from the Teletoon Detour Pilot Project. Below is the first segment from the pilot, titled Chicken Heaven, which was designed by Riccardo Durante and directed by Mark Ackland. Ackland and Durante also animated the piece. The entire 23-minute pilot can be viewed online.

Sidekick Stars on Cartoon Network in June

Six years after our interview with Joey So and Todd Kauffman about their series Sidekick, it’s set to arrive on Cartoon Network in the US. Starting on June 13th, the Flash-animated series will begin airing at 3:30pm. Below you can get a sneak peek at what the show now looks like:

Remember last year’s TELETOON Detour Pilot Project? It featued 10 new series pilots, including Angora Napkin, Ninjamaica and Nerdland, which ended up getting the most viewer votes. I hadn’t yet watched Dunce Bucket, the animated sketch show. You can watch the whole 22-minute Dunce Bucket pilot over on sympatico.ca, but here’s the title sequence below, which was produced at George Elliott (as was the whole pilot):

Loogaroo Launches Space Knights

The team at Canadaian studio Loogaroo, which is run by ex-Fatkat kingpin Gene Fowler, is hoping you’ll like Space Knights, a 22-minute, Flash-animated pilot for Detour, the adult block on Canada’s TELETOON network. The project is part of an animated contest that pits 10 series against eachother in a vote-a-thon. So far, Nerdland and Dunce Bucket have proved the most popular amongst viewers, but the recently-released Space Knights is already hurtling to the top. Space Knights Title Sequence Go!

Andy Coyle recently posted the updated Space Knights title sequence on his blog. The project, which was initiated at Fatkat, was selected to be part of The Detour on TELETOON Pilot Project, as we announced here almost exactly a year ago. The team produced 2 episodes that comprised the pilot, and Coyle and his friends Jon, Tavis and Pat worked on this intro.

Angora Napkin Orchestrates a Montage

Nick Cross (The Waif of Persephone), has been hard at work on Angora Napkin, the girl-band he created along with Sheridan College-grad, Troy Little. The Flash project actually began as a graphic novel, which was published only 5 months ago (on sale for $19.99), and back in 2008 the Canadian network TELETOON announced the project would be part of The Detour pilot project. Below is a montage that Cross and Little whipped together to keep us busy while the pilot continues cooking. It’s nearly a 100% digital production, focusing on strong poses in favor of “slick modern-looking animation.”

Sidekick Gets a New Pal – Cartoon Network

Now for a short note on persistence. Of the 60+ interviews I’ve posted here at ColdHardFlash, my discussion with Joey So and Todd Kauffman was number two. This was back in 2005, and the twosome were invited by the Canadian network Teletoon to produce Sidekick, a short series for their Funpak block. In Flash, they created 5 shorts, a process well detailed in the 2-part interview.

Now, 4 years on, Sidekick has been picked up by Cartoon Network. Persistence has paid off. Congrats guys! Here’s a trailer they cut for MIP:

Disney XD Premieres Kid vs. Kat and Jimmy Two Shoes

If you hadn’t already noticed, Disney’s Jetix network has relaunched as Disney XD. New series have been added to the slate including a couple digital 2D projects – Kid vs. Kat (created by Rob Boutilier) and Jimmy Two Shoes (created by Edward Kay and Sean Scott). Kid vs. Kat is produced in Flash, while Jimmy Two Shoes is brought to life using Toon Boom Harmony. Jimmy Two Shoes is being produced by Breakthrough Animation and TELETOON, with help from Mercury Filmworks. Here’s title sequence:

Jimmy Two Shoes Laces Up For 2009

Produced by Breakthrough Animation, Jetix Europe and TELETOON, Jimmy Two Shoes was all the buzz at this Fall’s MIPCOM Junior event, booking the most screenings of any other series. The project, which was created by Edward Kay and Sean Scott (Doodlez), puts Jimmy in Miseryville, the most miserable place on Earth. Jimmy then annoys the hell out of everyone with his torrent of optimism. In early 2009, the series will begin on TELETOON and Jetix Europe. I also noticed that Mercury Filmworks is on the team.

Cheshire Smile Brings Christmas to TELETOON

Here in LA, it was 95 degrees this weekend, so it feels odd to be writing this… but a new Christmas movie will soon debut on TV. The Side Show Christmas, a 44-minute Flash-animated special, will air on the French TELETOON network at 5pm EST on December 7th, and then in English on TELETOON on December 12th. Tim Tyler’s Saskatchewan-based Cheshire Smile Animation partnered up with Studio B Productions to create this film about “a side show owner who kidnaps Santa in a wild scheme to save the family business.” Here’s a promotional clip from the project…
